Stories of a Career Change

Once upon a time, I was a public school math teacher. Now I want to be a visual storyteller. Why a visual storyteller? I’m still figuring that out…. The more pressing question that I’ll be discussing through this blog is, “How am I going to become a visual storyteller?”. I’ve started down the visual storytelling path enough to know that having a sketchbook, pencil, pen, eraser, and a story to tell aren’t enough by themselves. The way I ‘see’ this world will be changing the more I study visual storytelling, and the way I express my thoughts will also be changing. Then there’s all the storycraft of both words and images to practice. Can I do all of this? Dunno….maybe? I hope so. I know I can’t do it alone. And that becomes another part of this journey – finding others along a similar path on their way to becoming visual artists and storytellers. Perhaps this blog is where you will enter this adventure with me as a fellow student of the visual arts and visual storytelling… or perhaps your life doesn’t include drawing or painting, and to watch someone else start down such a path interests you. Whatever has ‘drawn’ you here – Welcome!
